Some sites forgive mistakes. Kartavya Path is not one of them. Since May 2023, GPWM has run waste processing operations at the redeveloped Central Vista — among the most visited and most scrutinised public precincts in India, where an overflowing bin is a national photograph.
The facility was conceptualised for roughly 1,200 kg of waste per day. Reality moved fast: from 2025, daily inflows rose to 2,000–3,500 kg, with seasonal horticulture waste becoming the largest single stream. GPWM re-engineered the operation around it — sun-drying, mechanical shredding, enzyme-assisted pre-decomposition and rotary composting on a 15-day cycle, with dry waste segregated for recycling.
The model is distinctive: CPWD provides the land, shed and equipment; GPWM provides trained manpower, process discipline and the daily judgment to keep a high-visibility site clean through festival crowds, state events and three-fold volume swings.
When the venue is the nation's front lawn, 'good enough' isn't.
